THE LASTST UPDATED (20131211 updated)

Dear members and conference participants:

In the past few months, we received many suggestions from you that have helped us improve and better organize our upcoming conference and workshops in Taiwan next March. The suggestions are mainly concerned with the following two issues:

1. The conference schedule is too long resulting in extra cost; and
2. The submission deadline for the final paper should be extended

To response those suggestions, some changes are made:

1. Participants are invited to present their work in each individual workshop mainly. In the roundtable session of conference, only a brief summary and conclusion for each workshop will be presented. To enable everyone to access the presentations in each workshop, a brief summary of each paper is prepared and displayed as posters in the reception hall in front of conference room. Space will be arranged and provided for participants to communicate with each other.

2. We accept submission of full papers and will provide peer review for those who need it prior to the conference. Final papers were required after conference so that suggestions and responses from workshop and conference could be incorporated into your papers. The full papers will be included in a publication project after the conference. But, a draft paper must be submitted before the conference, so we can arrange your poster and print out your abstract or draft paper to make the discussion easier during to the conference. The format for the poster and the copy right agreement will be provided so you can select the information you wish to display in the reception Hall.

3. Workshop 1 - Urban social housing has been cancelled due to lack of papers. If you have submitted, or intend to join this workshop, please choose another workshop that may interest you.

We hope the above arrangement is all right with you. The new schedule is:

Registration and Poster submission: January 15th, 2014
Full draft paper submission: February 15th, 2014
Final full paper submission: April 15, 2014

Conference Schedule:
1. Pre-conference workshops: March 14 – March 16, 2014 (precise details vary depending on each workshop)
2. Opening Reception: evening of March 16
3. Main Conference -- Big Table Forum: March 17 – March 18, 2014
The posters Exhibition from March 16 to 19, 2014

If you find any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to seeing you in Taiwan.

Sincerely yours,

Chao-Ching Yu

Updated information June 17th 2013

Dear Everyone:

We are honored to host “2014 Pacific Rim Community Design Network Conference” in Taiwan, and we welcome all of you to participate and to share your experiences.

The organizing committee is trying our best to arrange the details for the conference and workshops. Please check our conference website http://2014communitydesign.blogspot.tw for the updated information.

There are few important updates as follows:
1.      In order to have sufficient time to share experience and conclusions from individual workshops, we decide to have five half-day sessions for the Big Table discussions. Therefore, we extended the forum from 16th to 18th March, 2014.
2.      As we consider most our participants are working in universities and right now at the end of academic year probably is the busiest time, so we are extending the deadline of abstract submission one more month from June 15th to July 15th. The abstracts and full papers will be reviewed by each individual workshop. The other schedules are remain the same
3.      Lastly, as for the accommodation, we have secured some rooms at University Guest House for your staying during the conference (Phase 2: Big Table, March 16-18). There are 15 twin beds in Student Centre and the price is around 45 USD, and 13 twin beds and 1 double bed in Administrative Building and the price is ranging from 70 to 110USD (http://guesthouse.cycu.edu.tw/default.htm; sorry, it is in Chinese.) We can also make reservations for you in Chung-li City hotel (http://jungli.chinatrust-hotel.com/) with discount up to 35% via our arrangement. For the information about accommodation during workshops, please contact the Contact person of each workshop.

If you find any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to seeing you in Taiwan.

Sincerely yours,
Chao-ching Yu

“Engaging the grassroots: Social Justice and Bio-diversity” is the theme for the 9th gathering of participatory community planners and designers around the Pacific Rim. Established in 1998, democratic planning and participatory design have been at the heart of the Pacific Rim Community Design Network. With eight conferences held in various countries across the Pacific Rim, issues and foci have been expanded according to the environmental and social changes.

The 2014 conference is to be held in Taiwan during March 14~19.  The format of the conference consists of “small groups” organized around these five sub-areas, followed by a common forum – “big tables”

For the 9th gathering, we invite overseas designers and planners interacting with communities through democratic spirits, civic resonances and environmental stewardships. We span the theme “Engaging the grassroots: Social Justice and Biodiversity” to five key issues:
(1) Urban social housing
(2) ‘New ruralism’ experiments
(3) Wetland conservation
(4) Placemaking in displacement
(5) Service-learning education

We provide two paths for participation in the conference: (1) participants without refereed full papers, and (2) participants with refereed full papers. Please send your abstract and full paper to the workshop organizers. The important dates are listed below for the two paths
